What is Outposts Media?

Outposts is a channel dedicated to providing independent video content and online resources for the LGBTQ+ community.

We strive to celebrate and uplift voices of LGBTQ lives and experiences that are typically under-represented in mainstream media. In 2017 the project was founded by Luce Howell and Jasperi Wirtanen in response to an opportunity to use the Youtube Space in Kings Cross, London. In this time Youtube had come under fire for regularly demonetizing videos with the word “trans” or “transgender” in the title — and were even found running anti-LGBTQ ads on some videos geared toward the LGBTQ community. In response to this, Outposts was created to make resourceful content that was engaging, truthful and real to queer and trans people’s expeirences.

Through our online work, we strive to provide a safe space for all members of queer and trans communities in the UK. Accessibility and authenticity under-pins all our projects. We have currently produced three new video series, Questioning, Lights Out and Talking Queers. We also produce short documentaries, online articles and collaborate with organisations in the third sector.
